Vacqueyras Domaine de Montbayon Reviews

Score: 90-92 | October 17, 2017 | JebDunnuck.com

Slightly more expensive, the 2016 Vacqueyras Domaine de Montbayon is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre that was brought up all in tank. It offers plenty of earthy black and blue fruits, peppery herbs and hints of violets in a full-bodied, impressively concentrated, balanced style. It’s just another outstanding looking barrel sample from this negociant.

This is a dark, succulent profile, with lots of mixed berry, plum sauce and fig paste notes laced with licorice root and ganache, all carried by well-imbedded acidity. Shows nice grip and purity through the finish. Best from 2013 through 2020.

Dark and fleshy, delivering ganache, black tea and mulled plum fruit backed by slightly chewy licorice and blackberry confiture notes on the long, muscular finish. There is lots of stuffing here, so this will need a little time to stretch out. Drink now through 2014. 550 cases made. –JM
